How can I make sure my voice doesnt crack tomorrow?

I’ve been practicing the same song in my chest voice ( i know I shouldnt use my chest voice really but it’s just this one song) and I have an assessment in school with it tomorrow, but today it cracked on the higher note (not in my chest voice) and my voice is feeling quite strained and throaty. It HAS to go well tomorrow, we’re being filmed for it and everything! How can I make sure it goes right tomorrow?

You need to make sure your voice is properly rested and your vocal chords are well hydrated before you sing. So there are 3 things you need to do:

1. Drink plenty of water the night before and in the morning. Drinking before you go onstage will lubricate your vocal chords and help, but you should drink water at least an hour before to allow time for your body to hydrate from the inside, that’s far more important. Steam is even better if you can put your head over a bowl of steam or go to the steam room in a health club.

2. Get a good night’s sleep.

3. Don’t practice too much before you go onstage, you’ll wear out your voice. Try to avoid talking loudly or shouting on the day of your performance and warm up your voice properly before you perform. Ideally you would taper down your practice so you can have a day off of singing before the performance. If you’ve been practicing hard you’ll be surprised the difference a rest day will make.
